Polish Parliamentarians Write to Duma Speaker

The Parliamentary Team for Independence Tradition has adopted a resolution on sending the following letter signed by several tens of Freedom Union (UW) and Labour Union (UP) deputies, dealing with a book by Yuri Mukhin, now circulated in the Russian parliament, to the Speaker of State Duma of the Russian Federation.

"Dear Mr. Speaker,

Members of the Parliamentary Team for Independence Tradition at the Sejm of the Republic of Poland are turning to you and to the Deputies to the State Duma of the Russian Federation with an appeal to oppose the content of a book about Katyn by Yuri Mukhin, which is now being circulated in the Duma and which is full of lies and hatred of Poland and of Poles.

The content of this publication contradicts the documented historical knowledge of the crime committed in 1940 in Katyn, Ostashkov and Mednoye on Polish officers, policemen and civil servants at the orders of the Soviet authorities.

The relevant documents passed to Poland by the Russian authorities, as well as other evidence, arouse no objections on either side.

The people of Russia and Poland, both of them hit hard by the 20th century totalitarian regimes, feel a need of reconciliation, cooperation and of rebuilding mutual trust.

A precondition of satisfying this need is the telling of the truth, no matter how painful.

The judgements offending Poland and Poles and the historical lies contained in Yuri Mukhin's book arouse our concern and for an obstacle to the development of mutual relations."

Вообще, книжка Мухина вызвала у польских деятелей сильное беспокойство, им позарез нужно было узнать, не стоит ли кто-нибудь из российских властных структур за этим Мухиным?

«Документы и свидетельства», предоставленные полякам российскими властями, выходит, «не вызвали возражений у обеих сторон». Очень трогательно. Цена этим «документам» — ельцинский стольник или путинский рубль в базарный день, главный политрук Советской армии Дмитрий Волкогонов с американским шпионом А.Н.Яковлевым в архивах кучу таких наплодили.
